CNRS Researcher Competition – 2026 Recruitment Procedure

Eligibility Requirements

To apply for the CNRS external researcher competition, candidates must:

  • Hold a PhD or demonstrate equivalent research achievements.

  • There is no age limit.

  • There are no nationality restrictions.

Each application is evaluated by the jury based on the scientific quality of the candidate’s work and overall academic record.

Application File

Applications must be submitted entirely online via the official CNRS competition platform.

Key Dates – 2026 Campaign

  • Opening of applications: December 12, 2025

  • Deadline for submission: January 12, 2026

Required Documents

The application file must include:

  • A detailed curriculum vitae

  • A complete list of publications

  • A research project

The research project may be written in English. It should outline the main scientific objectives and proposed collaborations. Candidates are strongly encouraged to contact potential collaborators or host laboratories before submitting their application.

Applicants must also indicate their preferred host laboratory. It is highly recommended to contact the laboratories concerned as early as possible (October or early November) to prepare a coherent application and research project aligned with existing scientific activities.

For reference, LPMMC is affiliated with CNRS Sections 05 and 06, and some of its members are also affiliated with Section 02.

Review Process and Interviews

After the submission deadline, applications are reviewed by the relevant section committee.

👉 Interviews take place in the spring, typically in April or May.
All eligible candidates are invited to an interview.

The interview lasts approximately 10–15 minutes and consists of:

  • A presentation of the candidate’s research project

  • Questions from the jury

Eligibility List and Final Selection

Following the interviews, the jury deliberates and publishes a list of eligible candidates, usually within a week after the interviews. This list often includes a supplementary list.

The ranking is then submitted to the relevant Scientific Department, which may revise the order. Once validated, it becomes the final selection list, generally published at the end of June 2026.

For successful candidates:

  • Host laboratory preferences are confirmed through the application system.

  • Final appointment depends on ranking, stated preferences, and possible withdrawals.

📅 Start date: September 1, 2026.
